Core Curriculum

Core Curriculum

The core curriculum is an essential part of the EDOLAD programme. The curriculum takes place in the first four months of the first year of the programme i.e. February-May. Essential skills training takes place in the second and third year in February.

Successful completion of the first-year curriculum is necessary to continue in the programme. The core curriculum amounts to 30 ECTS and researchers are awarded a certificate upon successful completion.

Using intensive small-group tutorials, the core curriculum provides researchers with an introduction to the core research methodologies of Law & Development, as well as to the key substantive areas of Law & Development. Skills training in the second year of the programme prepares students for their fieldwork, whilst the skills training in the third year is dedicated to communication and networking.

The location of the curriculum rotates between the partners. In 2017, the curriculum will be hosted at Deusto University. As the programme progresses, researchers in the second-year and third-year of the programme will join the new first-year intake at the same location for the continuation of their core curriculum. In this way, knowledge and expertise can be shared across the years and we build an EDOLAD community.
